Governor Chris Sununu Statement on Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFR)
Concord, NH – Today, Governor Chris Sununu issued the following statement regarding the Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFR):
"Today is a great day for fiscal responsibility in the State of New Hampshire. I’m very encouraged by the state’s preliminary surplus statement. It reflects good management of taxpayer money within state agencies for controlling costs and a very strong economy. I want to thank the commissioners for their dedication to efficiency and their vigilance against waste.
"Importantly, I made a commitment to the people of New Hampshire during my campaign for governor that I would increase school building aid. Today’s announcement ensures that this commitment will be kept. Much needed funds will be headed back to local school districts for some critically needed building projects from our newly created Public School Infrastructure Fund. Once finalized, we will be able to deliver this additional support through school building aid without increasing state liabilities; these are one time funds that will be spent on one time projects.
“As we move forward, we will continue to manage the budget carefully and in a fiscally conservative manner and keep a strong lid on additional costs increases or expenses."
