New Hampshire Announces Details of VW Settlement Plan

Concord, NH - Today, Governor Chris Sununu and Office of Strategic Initiatives Director Jared Chicoine announced the details of New Hampshire's plan for the Volkswagen Settlement. Over the coming years, New Hampshire will be able to benefit from over $30million as a result of the settlement. The Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI) and the Department of Environmental Services (DES) have put together a draft mitigation plan that will allow New Hampshire to replace some of our State's oldest and dirtiest vehicles while providing savings for taxpayers.

This plan will make the investments to encourage and support electric vehicle charging infrastructure, enabling us to continue to attract EV drivers to our state for tourism and workforce development. It will also engage the private sector and provide New Hampshire the opportunity to leverage these funds effectively.

"Together, we can take advantage of this non-taxpayer funded money to focus on issues that matter for New Hampshire: a stronger economy, a cleaner environment, and a reduced tax burden", said Governor Chris Sununu. "I am pleased with the draft plan and am looking forward to hearing feedback from Granite Staters so we can ensure these funds are spent the New Hampshire way."

"The Volkswagen Settlement funds are an exciting opportunity for the state to modernize our fleets, invest in infrastructure, reduce our tax burden and decrease diesel emissions", said Director Jared Chicoine. "Our efforts are focused on finding benefits throughout New Hampshire, and we want to make sure every voice is heard. Over the coming weeks, we will be accepting written comments on our draft mitigation plan and holding 7 public comment sessions across New Hampshire. We encourage anyone interested to participate".
