Governor Chris Sununu to Nominate Alexandria Peary as New Poet Laureate

Today, Governor Chris Sununu announced that he will nominate Alexandria Peary of Londonderry, New Hampshire, to serve as the next Poet Laureate of New Hampshire. The nomination will be made at the October 2nd Executive Council Meeting.

"I'd like to thank the Governor for his nomination and for providing me with the opportunity to serve the writers of New Hampshire," said Alexandria. "For all of my career, I have been committed to helping others advance their writing and achieve success. I look forward to developing a range of programs and initiatives for individuals across the state."

"I am pleased to nominate Alexandria for the role of Poet Laureate," said Governor Chris Sununu. "As the author of six books and countless other works, I am confident Alexandria will do a great job as Poet Laureate."

Alexandria Peary (MFA, MFA, PhD) is the author of six books, including Control Bird Alt Delete, recipient of the Iowa Poetry Prize, and her newest book, The Water Draft, to be published this month. Alexandria is widely published in magazines including the Yale Review, New England Review, Gettysburg Review, Crazyhorse, New American Writing, Painted Bride Quarterly, and North American Review. She has eighteen years' experience administering college and university writing programs where she led system-wide initiatives to support others' writing.

Following the nomination at the October 2nd Executive Council meeting, a confirmation vote will likely take place at the October 23rd Executive Council meeting.
