CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch today signed a new law (Senate Bill 180) establishing an accountability system to ensure schools are providing equal opportunities for a quality education.
The new law represents the latest step in the state’s efforts to address education funding.
“This new law establishes a performance-based system that measures achievement and school success,” Gov. Lynch said. “It will allow us to determine if schools are in fact using critical state aid to provide the quality education each child deserves.”
The legislation was a developed over several months by a legislative commission.
“We have demonstrated that we take the education of our children seriously and that we have worked to make progress,” Gov. Lynch said. “But our work is not over. We must continue to work to ensure that every child, no matter where they live, has access to a quality education.”
The new law was sponsored by Sen. Molly Kelly and Rep. Emma Rous.
