CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch today traveled to Holderness Town Hall to sign a new law (Senate Bill 159) that will help bring broadband and advanced telecommunications services to New Hampshire, especially to underserved areas.
“If our economy is to be competitive into the future, we need a high-technology infrastructure that is available to every part of our state,” Gov. Lynch said. “This new law will help us achieve our goal of expanding broadband and advanced telecommunications in New Hampshire.”
The new law establishes a director of broadband technology planning and development within the Division of Economic Development.
The director of broadband technology planning and development position will be paid for entirely with federal stimulus funds.
“The ongoing national recession continues to impact New Hampshire families and businesses. But these tough times won’t last forever,” Gov. Lynch said. “That is why it is important that we do what we can to help ensure we emerge from this recession as a place where businesses can grow and thrive. Expanding broadband in a part of that effort.”
The new law was sponsored by Sens. Deb Reynolds, Jackie Cilley, Molly Kelly, John Gallus, Harold Janeway, Matthew Houde; and Reps. Naida Kaen and Carol Friedrich.
