CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch announced today that for the fifth straight year New Hampshire has been named the “Most Livable State” in the nation.
In its annual report, CQ Press listed New Hampshire as No. 1 in its most livable state rankings, which take into account a broad range of economic, educational, health, public safety and environmental statistics. Just last week, CQ Press named New Hampshire the “Safest State” in the nation.
“New Hampshire is routinely recognized as a national leader in many categories. This report reaffirms what the citizens of our state already know - New Hampshire is a great place to live and work,” Gov. Lynch said. “We must keep working together to make sure New Hampshire stays a great place for our families and businesses- improving the quality of education, strengthening our economy, making health care more accessible and affordable, protecting our natural resources and ensuring the safety of all our citizens and visitors.”
Formerly published by Morgan Quitno, the “Most Livable State Award” has been issued for the last 18 years. The 2008 award is based on 44 factors including median household income, crime rate, state business tax climate, employment and several educational factors.
“Being recognized with this honor for the fifth consecutive year is an incredible milestone for the State of New Hampshire,” said Department of Resources & Economic Development Commissioner George Bald. “It’s tremendously gratifying to know that our great state is being acknowledged for our pristine natural environment, our innovative business atmosphere and our scenic beauty. New Hampshire truly is ‘the place to be.’”
