CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council today approved a contract to begin the reconstruction of the Spaulding Turnpike through Rochester.
“With this contract, we are moving forward with our efforts to make the Spaulding Turnpike a better, safer road for all our residents and visitors. This project will improve public safety, allow for continued economic growth in the Seacoast, and improve the quality of life of commuters,” Gov. Lynch said.
Built in 1957, the Spaulding Turnpike has a number of red-listed bridges and is unable to meet modern traffic demands.
The $14.4 million contract with SUR Construction of Rochester will allow work to begin on widening and reconstruction of the southbound portion of the turnpike through the Exit 12 interchange.
