CONCORD – Governor Maggie Hassan released the following statement today on the Air Force’s announcement that a successful environmental impact study reaffirmed that Pease Air National Guard Base and the 157th Air Refueling Wing will receive the new KC-46A air refueling tanker:
“Over a year after Pease was selected as the preferred Air National Guard base for the KC-46A, we are thrilled to celebrate the official announcement that the Air Force's next generation refueling tanker will indeed be based here with our National Guard in the Granite State. The entire State of New Hampshire is incredibly proud of our National Guard and the 157th Air Refueling Wing, and we are eternally grateful for their service and sacrifice.
“The men and women of the 157th Air Refueling Wing are skilled, they are war-tested, and they have proven through their professionalism and commitment to excellence that they are the ideal choice to handle the challenges of the new tanker. And bringing the KC-46A air refueling tankers to Pease will benefit our Seacoast communities and economy, bringing more jobs to the region and helping the base generate an even greater positive economic impact.
“I thank Senators Shaheen and Ayotte, as well as Congresswomen Shea-Porter and Kuster, for their advocacy for Pease Air National Guard Base, and on behalf of all Granite Staters, we look forward to welcoming the KC-46A to New Hampshire.”
Last year, Governor Hassan sent a letter to Air Force Chief of Staff General Mark A. Welsh encouraging the basing of the new KC-46A air refueling tanker with the 157th Air Refueling Wing at Pease Air National Guard Base.
