Governor Hassan Issues Executive Order to Protect Taxpayer Dollars by Improving Agency Response to Audits
Directs Agencies to Develop Action Plans within 30 Days of Audits; Regularly Report on Progress

CONCORD – Continuing her efforts to improve the transparency and efficiency of state government, Governor Maggie Hassan today issued an Executive Order directing state agencies to develop action plans within 30 days of audits and to regularly report on their progress responding to audit findings.

“Our goal is to ensure that state government is operating as efficiently and transparently as possible. Audits give us an opportunity to improve operations and to improve how we protect taxpayer dollars,” Governor Hassan said. “This Executive Order will help ensure that state agencies continue to address audit findings, and provide the public with transparent information about their efforts.”

The Executive Order requires agencies to develop an action plan to address audit findings within 30 days of an audit being presented to the Legislative Fiscal Committee, and to publicly present the plan. As part of that plan, agencies will also identify what findings must be addressed by other entities, including the legislature in the form of changes to laws, rules or funding allocations, the federal government, or the Governor and Council.

Agencies will also be required to report twice a year on their progress in addressing audit findings.

Governor Hassan also directed that agency action plans, as well as the progress reports, be posted on TransparentNH, with a link to the original audit.

The Executive Order applies to any audit released since January.
